Make way for Air Jordan.
The greatest basketball player of all time is coming to witness the Greatest Two Minutes in Sports.
Michael Jordan will attend his first Kentucky Derby on Saturday as a guest of the Grand Gala, a black-tie ball on Derby night that benefits the 828 Foundation, which gives educational scholarships.
"I'm very glad that he is coming," said Louisville businessman Junior Bridgeman, a pretty fair hoopster himself back in the day. "It helps not just our party but the Derby and the city too."
Jordan will be joined by former Chicago Bulls teammates Ron Harper and Charles Oakley. Dallas Cowboys running back Eddie George is coming to the Grand Gala as well.
Jordan and Bridgeman first met in 1984, Jordan's rookie year with the Bulls.
Bridgeman, who led the University of Louisville to the 1975 Final Four, was nearing the end of an outstanding 12-year career in the National Basketball Association. He also was president of the NBA Players Association.
The two became friends when Bridgeman was a color commentator on the Bulls' radio network. Bridgeman went on to bigger things, amassing a fast-food empire of 153 Wendy's restaurants that ranks Bridgeman Foods Inc. as the 16th-largest restaurant franchisee in America, according to the 2004 Restaurant Finance Monitor.
Jordan, as America knows, did pretty well for himself too: ESPN's SportsCentury poll ranked him as the greatest athlete of the 20th century.

The Cherokee Triangle Association's art fair is billed as one of the region's oldest, dating back more than 30 years when it started with residents exchanging garden plants.
Like buds on dogwoods, people who come to the art fair every spring began lining Cherokee Parkway in its first hours, looking at 200 booths of arts and crafts.

Becky Schupbach, whose Sea Change Designs features glass beads crafted into jewelry, said she looks forward to the fair every year. "I get to see all my friends because they come by my booth," she said.

Thunder over Louisville

Got my tickets to the high-rise shindig for thunder this weekend! :) see ya there- stac

Rated as one of the top 100 events in North America, the Derby Festival’s Opening Ceremonies is truly a sight to behold. And each year, more than 500,000 eager thrill-seekers do just that.
The day-long event kicks off the two exciting weeks of events that are part of the annual Kentucky Derby Festival. The Thunder Air Show dazzles the crowd with more than 100 planes, aerobatics teams, daring sky diving teams and breathtaking stunts.
When it gets dark, the Thunder rolls. The fireworks will feature the latest in pyrotechnic power from Zambelli Internationale, America's "first family of fireworks”. Eight 400-foot barges assemble on both sides of the 2nd Street Bridge to form the stage from which the fireworks spectacular ignites.
The breathtaking and mind-numbing 28-minute show includes Thunder’s signature one-mile “waterfall” effect off the bridge, making the fireworks seem to rain down forever. And in the crowd’s memory of the show, it does!
After more than a decade, the show remains the largest annual pyrotechnic display in North America. Seen by millions worldwide via a July 4th rebroadcast on the Armed Forces Network to more than 150 countries, it is the state’s pride. A Discovery Channel documentary on fireworks shows says it best, “Thunder is the Grand-daddy of them all!”.
